2016 The Gratias Agit award

The Gratias Agit has been awarded by the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the promotion of the good name of the Czech Republic abroad ever since 1997 in appreciation of prominent personalities and organisations developing activities in nongovernmental fields. Along with the increasing role of civic society, this award, too, is becoming an ever more prestigious prize for the voluntary activities of people committed to working for the benefit of the whole society, for the promotion of friendship among nations and for the promotion of the good name of the Czech Republic in the world. At present, it is the only statutory prize awarded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

An iconic film is re-imagined by celebrated Czech dancers Jirí and Otto Bubenicek for the Royal New Zealand Ballet, setting the stage for a voyage into uncharted territory for everyone involved.

Storyline
When Czech choreographer Jirí Bubeníček and his stage designer brother Otto arrive in New Zealand to re-stage an extended version of their work The Piano: the ballet for the Royal New Zealand Ballet, the stage is set for a voyage into uncharted territory for everyone involved. The twins, both former Principal Dancers, are now sought-after by Europe's most eminent ballet companies for their choreography and staging, but they are unaware that in New Zealand their work raises questions of cultural appropriation. Over the coming weeks the brothers must work together with Maori cultural advisor Moss Te Ururangi Patterson to adapt the work for a New Zealand context, the very process challenging concepts of freedom of expression so important to them both. Meanwhile the dancers responsible for delivering the ballet face challenges of a different kind as they come to terms with the famous characters of Ada, Stewart and Baines and the love triangle they are caught up in. The largest documentary project of Czech Television, GEN - The National Elite Gallery - returns to the screen after 15 years. As of 15 January, Czech Television will offer portraits of prominent Czech personalities in the main broadcasting time, every Sunday from 8 pm on CT1, through the eyes of leading Czech directors as well as directorial debutants. The new gen series begins with a portrait of singer Hana Zagorová, which was directed by the author of GEN Fera Feniče.
